Halloween DecorationsA traditional part of Halloween is decorating the yard and home, whether for trick-or-treaters, or Halloween parties.
In 19th and early 20th century Ireland, Halloween decoration was exuberant. Slates were placed over the chimney-pots of houses filling the rooms with smoke and field gates were lifted off their hinges and hung from high tree branches. The theme of American Halloween decorations tends to be spooky, including ghosts, witches, etc, and, of course, Jack O' Lanterns. These Halloween decorations may be quite elaborate such as lighting and sound effects and fog machines. The occupants of the house may also dress up and answer the door in spooky attire which can sometimes scare young Trick or Treaters.
