Be Your Own Valentine

Valentine's Day can be a depressing day for single people who would like to be married. However, with a little creativity, the day can be a great time to be one's own valentine! Everyone needs to pamper himself or herself a little, and holidays of all sorts offer this opportunity and excuse.

What is wrong with a single person taking himself or herself out for a nice dinner. A steak dinner or a huge plate of exotic sea food are treats that seem extravagant, but are actually very wholesome foods. A single is likely to miss out on the really nice dinners because they don't have someone to share it with. On Valentine's Day they can take the time and make the effort to treat themselves.

Another nice self treat is to go to one's favorite type of entertainment. Whether it is a symphony concert or a night of square dancing, singles can do anything couples can do! Perhaps one's favorite entertainment is to curl up in front of a fire with a good book or spend a quiet evening with a new DVD. Others might enjoy listening to music and spending time at a favorite hobby. Whatever a single person enjoys, he or she can take time out to enjoy it on Valentine's Day.

A single woman who enjoys flowers can buy herself a dozen red roses if she desires. Chocolates and jewelry are not off limits either just because a person is single.

The single person who feels cheated, depressed, or left out during this romantic holiday should take some time to list the positive aspects to being single. While loneliness is not a pleasant feeling, there are many freedoms and privileges to being single, and these should not be taken for granted. Thankfulness and a positive outlook are helpful attitudes no matter what one's situation is.

For one thing, happy single hood is always preferable to an unhappy marriage. But beyond that, there are freedoms in being single. A single person can dedicate his or her life to a selfless cause without worrying about a mate that wants them to earn money and build a beautiful home. A single person can be extravagant or stingy without having disagreements over money, something that comes up in almost every marriage.

Single people can eat when they want, stay up late when they want, and go out or stay home as desired. If loneliness seems to outweigh these benefits, they can get involved in social or religious activities, and spend time with other people that way. They can join clubs and groups devoted to their favorite hobbies or career interests.

If all else fails, and a single is still lonesome and depressed when Valentine's Day comes around, they can always check out computer matchmakers! Many people have found the love of their lives through these services. For best results they should be completely honest and choose an online service that reflects their own values and viewpoints.
