It's a Wrap! - Creative Wrapping Ideas
To wrap a box with a separate lid, first you must find a box that has a removable lid that slides on top of the box. If you need a large box, the type that bulk copy paper comes in works well. You can also find boxes of all sizes and types at most craft stores.
Choose a heavy wrapping paper and transparent, not shiny, adhesive tape. First you need to line the inside of the box with paper. This is almost like wrapping the outside but in reverse. The paper does not have to reach the top edge of the box but should at least be 1" from it. You can line it with fabric if you are so inclined, or spray paint it with glossy paint to match your paper. Whatever suites you! If you line it with fabric you can use spray adhesive to keep the fabric from shifting.
Once the inside is lined, cut a piece of wrapping paper for the outside. The ends of the box will be folded up the same as if it were a whole box. Use tape to adhere edges to the box as needed to help keep the paper in place and snug to the box. Fold the edges of the paper so it is a nice edge and bring the edge of the paper down over the lining, tape or glue securely.
At most greeting card stores or discount stores you can find gift bags in many different sizes and styles. There are paper ones and usually around a holiday time, plastic ones with drawstrings. Having the bag or box much larger than the gift is a fun way to conceal the gift, but the gift often shifts inside the box or bag. To keep this from happening, use packing peanuts, crumpled newspaper or tissue around the item. To seal paper bags use either tape or staple the top closed and adhere a bow to hide the tape.
Another fun way to wrap a gift is with a nice soft bath towel. If your gift is a set of body and bath items, wrap them in a soft fluffy towel and tie it with ribbon. If you are giving a set of slippers, purchase a robe to match and wrap the slippers in the robe and tie it with the robe belt. If you prefer to not have the towel or robe exposed but like wrapping the item in them, then put the entire 'package' in a gift bag or box.
Instead of typical pre-made bows try purchasing a roll of ribbon to match and tying it around the box with a bow that they can untie instead of cut. For plain paper, use raffia in place of ribbon. If you are wrapping a pair of pants that has included the belt, use the belt around the box instead of a ribbon or bow.
