Quick Valentine's Day Treats

It's easy to make treats for a crowd that will be attractive on a Valentine's Day party table. Simply start with a recipe for plain sugar cookies. This can be made from scratch or purchased in the refrigerator section of the super market. The dough can be used as is, or can be colored with a few drops of red food coloring so that the cookies will be a soft pink.

Roll out the dough until it is about one fourth of an inch thick. Cut the dough with heart shaped cookie cutters. Lay the cookies carefully on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Sprinkle the top of the cookies with plain sugar. Press an unwrapped Hershey's kiss candy into the center of each heart cookie. Bake quickly according to recipe directions.

If desired, the cookies can be made plain, and then frosted with pink frosting and sprinkled with mini chocolate chips. Brownies with mini chocolate chips added are another nice treat for a Valentine's Day party. They can be frosted with pink frosting and have a Hershey's kiss or a candy heart imprinted with words of love placed on the top of each individual brownie.
