Seven Ways to "Pop the Question" on Valentine's Day

When it comes to proposing marriage, Valentine's Day is one of the most popular days of the year to ask the big question. It's already a romantic day, and couple's will be spending together anyway! So if you are planning a proposal on Valentine's Day, check out these ideas that can make the moment special and memorable.

1. Sweets for your Sweetie

Purchase a heart shaped box of candies and replace one of the candies with the engagement ring. Wrap the ring in a small piece of red tissue and put it in the empty spot.

Or purchase a bag of 'conversation hearts', you know, the ones that say "Be Mine" etc. and separate out the one's that say, "Marry Me". Keep them in your pocket in a separate container, perhaps a plastic heart shaped box. Hand her the other candy and casually ask her to read some of them to you as, then pull out the other candies you have and say "here, these are more perfect for you", quickly follow it with the ring and you on one knee.

2. At Your Favorite Restaurant:

According to the wine industry, restaurants are the second most popular place for marriage proposals. Be sure to make your reservations early and be sure to speak to the manager about your plans. They may have some great ideas on which table is best for you to be seated at, and perhaps they have a special cake they can make or dessert to bring out for you in celebration. Or perhaps the cake or dessert can say "Marry Me" on it!

3. An Unexpected Surprise

If you're generally not the romantic type, your honey will be suspicious if you suddenly want to go out for a fancy dinner, even on Valentine's Day. So you will need to be extra clever on this one! Do you frequent a local pub or steak house instead of a fancy restaurant? Maybe having the ring on a ribbon in your pocket and slip it over the neck of her beer bottle while you are waiting for your meal (if she drinks beer from a bottle!) Or excuse yourself to the restroom before you even get your menu's and catch your server, ask her to tape the ring (on the ribbon) inside your sweetie's menu and when she opens it she will see it. When she realizes what the ring is, slip to the floor beside her on one knee and ask away!

4. On the Radio

Call her favorite radio station that you know she listens to at specific times of the day and have it pre-arranged with the DJ. You may need to purchase an ad to have the radio DJ do this, or they may play along and do it for free. You need to call plenty of time ahead, say 2 weeks, and see what their policies are.

5. Propose at a Live Theater Production

If you enjoy going to see live theater productions then this would be a perfect place for you to attend on Valentine's Day. She won't be suspicious if you have attended before. If you know your sweetie is going to say yes, I suggest that you call the theater a few days before hand to see if you can propose on their stage. The stage manager and actors may be able to help you in planning something memorable. Don't forget to buy your tickets early so they are not sold out on the day you want to attend.

As an alternative if you are too shy to be up on stage, or they are not willing to let you have the stage that evening, you could buy an ad space in the program that states, "(your sweeties name) Will You Marry Me?" Love, (Your Name)". When you know that she has started to read it get down on your knee and present the ring. You may want some tissues handy!

6. A Book with a Secret

If your sweetie loves to read romance novels, you could purchase one you know she does not have already, glue the pages together with spray adhesive and hollow out a pocket to hide the ring in. when she tries to open it she will find the ring!

7. A Rose of Love

Roses speak of Love! Take the ring with you to the florist and have them wire the ring into the center of one of the roses. Present her with the bouquet just before you get down on one knee. Tell her that inside one of the roses is something that will change her life forever.
