Write a Poem for That Special Valentine

Poetry is a romantic touch to any message of love, whether it be spoken or written on a card or valentine. There is no real mystery to writing poetry, especially if one's heart is full of feelings of love, romance, and undying devotion. There are several simple forms of poetry that are easy to write. Simply follow the rules of the poem type.

One such poetic form is the cinquain. The term cinquain refers to the poem as having five lines. It becomes a poem when syllables are counted and planned.

The first line of a cinquain should have two syllables and be a noun. The beloved's name will work, or you can choose a word like "Sweetheart" or "loved one.

The second line should have four syllables. The third line should have six syllables. The fourth line needs eight syllables, and the final line should be back to two syllables again. It does not need to be the same term as the first line, but it can be.

Describe that loved one with lots of flattering adjectives with each successive line. Don't use a Valentine's Day poem as a chance to slip in a little constructive criticism!
